Entrepreneur’s pathway to Canadian PR

Entrepreneurs from abroad can immigrate to Canada permanently under the country’s business immigration program, the Start-Up Visa (SUV). Entrepreneurs and their founding teams (up to 5 partners) may use this program to move permanently to Canada if they have an innovative business idea and meet other qualifications.

What is the start-up visa program?

The Entrepreneur Start-Up Visa Program is the first of its kind globally and a groundbreaking Canadian immigration pilot program. This program connects eligible entrepreneurs with Canadian private-sector organizations that provide funding, guidance, and expertise to help launch and operate a business in Canada. Successful applicants are granted permanent residency in Canada, making this an excellent opportunity for innovative business owners to establish themselves in a thriving economy.

What are the Start-up visa (SUV) Requirements?

To be eligible for the Start-Up Visa Program, you must meet the following requirements:

The required amount depends on your family size.

Have a Qualifying Business:

You must own at least 10% of the voting rights attached to all company shares.

Along with the designated organization, you must collectively hold at least 50% of the voting rights attached to all company shares.

Have a Letter of Support from a Designated Organization:

Secure support from a venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator.

To gain this support, you need to pitch your business idea and convince the organization of its potential.

The pitching process varies by organization. If successful, you’ll receive a letter of support, which must be included in your visa application.

Meet Language Requirements:

Take a language test from an approved agency.

Achieve a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 in English or French across speaking, reading, listening, and writing.

Provide Proof of Funds:

Demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and your dependents upon arrival in Canada.
